Calcatrix sketches. Took a bunch of bird prompts on twitter and working through them as practice for this high-fluff fantasy setting.

So lingrimm gifted me a lovely creature design out of the blue some number of months back. I was drawing something fuzzy today and the head shape reminded me of their design so I ended up jumping over to play with the critter they’d given me.
I only really messed with the wings. These days I usually start with gestures and work from there but I went backwards this time (happens when there are no deadlines to meet, my process is pretty flexible so no big deal). All fun stuff, with the shaded gestures at the end being what I’m looking for.
I’ll mess with it more later and then figure out if there’s a place for him somewhere in my world. Apologies for the sub-par gradient-ing in general this week, my laptop can’t handle large files or run more than one program when PS is running, and the screen is tiny so doing anything on it is a pain.
Design belongs to lingrimm.

I love such styles that center mostly on the usage of inks and paint. And I love coffee too.
